Vp Of EngineeringAffinipay Sep 2016 - Jan 2019Austin, Tx, UsAs AffiniPay continued to invest in engineering and technology, a single team grew into multiple teams. By the end of 2018, engineering consisted of more than 30 people. At the same time, we also established a new Product Team that began working closely with engineering’s scrum teams to release new product features on a regular cadence. My primary focus was recruiting and retaining talent, helping establish the processes within engineering, and ensuring new integration partners were successful with their implementations. -

By the end of 2016, we added a dozen new employees across different engineering disciplines including Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, DevOps, Technical Writing, and UX.In this time we also launched many important product features including support for Canadian merchant accounts, EMV chip card support, an Android app, and API documentation for our partners. Software ArchitectAffinipay Sep 2013 - Jan 2015Austin, Tx, UsI was brought in originally to help complete the creation of AffiniPay’s Ruby on Rails web app that would go on to completely replace a third party vendor’s product that the company was reselling. We launched the application three months later and migrated approximately 20,000 merchants to it over the next few months. Myself and two other engineers were the only technical resources during this time and we worked closely with the company’s founders to design, build, and release new features such as recurring payments, improved reporting, and an iOS application. -
ConsultantSpiceworks Sep 2012 - Sep 2013Austin, Tx, UsSpiceworks offers products to IT professionals. Their original business model was to offer free downloadable tools such as network device discovery/inventory and a helpdesk ticket management system. These free downloads were monetized through in-app ads. They also managed a large online community for IT professionals and eventually went on to offer subscription-based online tools. While at Spiceworks I worked on updating the UI for their Help Desk product to bring it in line with new internal UI/UX and development standards. -
Senior Software EngineerPace Americas Oct 2010 - Oct 2012Saltaire, West Yorkshire, GbPace built hardware/software solutions for telecommunication companies. This includes devices and management systems for popular US services such as AT&T Uverse. Pace was acquired by Arris Group for $2.1B in 2015. Arris was subsequently acquired by CommScope for $7.4B in 2018.As technical lead, I was responsible for the design and implementation of the device and service management products. The device management product is an enterprise application and can scale to manage millions of TR69 CPEs. The service management product allows service providers to define, provision, and troubleshoot the services they offer to their subscribers while hiding the complexities of the underlying device management protocols. -
Senior Software Engineer2Wire Jan 2009 - Oct 2010Us2Wire was a San Jose, CA based company with a satellite office in Austin. The company's main product were DSL modems sold to telecoms, mostly AT&T. The Austin office's primary focus was developing the system management software used to support these devices. The company was acquired by Pace in 2010.I joined 2Wire to work as part of the UI team whose main product was a management console built on the Flex UI framework. I became the lead of that team and we worked to create the next generation management console on the Vaadin UI Framework. I would later become the technical lead for both the front-end and back-end teams. -
Software EngineerStorspeed May 2007 - Jan 2009UsStorspeed was a startup founded in 2007 that received $13 million in funding to build a zero-configuration, network-resident file storage caching solution. In 2010, the company folded but its IP and a few developers were acquired and used to launch a new startup called CacheIQ (purchased by NetApp in 2012).The product consisted of a cluster of 2U, rack-mounted high-performance custom appliances that could inspect network traffic and accelerate access to file-based storage by caching file blocks in RAM.I joined before we even had office space and worked with other early employees to begin designing the product. I owned building the management web application for the Storspeed product. The application was an SPA built using GWT and Flash (for interactive charts) and used techniques such as AJAX Push to synchronize the user interface with the management server in realtime. The application was used to set cluster configuration and policies; monitor hardware status, policy effectiveness and network traffic; and to generate reports. I also built a service registry for Thrift-based services to enable node-to-node cluster communication. This functionality was used to log management events from the cluster to the management server. -
Principal Software EngineerMirage Networks Oct 2005 - May 2007UsMirage Networks was a network security company that was founded in 2001, received three rounds of funding, and was acquired by Trustwave in 2009. I was also the lead for the user interface team responsible for the development of the next generation operations console which was built using Eclipse RCP and model-driven development techniques. From the operations console, the Mirage appliances are configured, network devices are monitored, and reports are generated. -

Responsible for UI design best-practices and training global development team in Eclipse RCP/plug-in technologies.- Owned the design and implementation for key enhancements to several core product components including Pervasive's JDBC driver, portions of its OLEDB provider, and developed the prototype for Pervasive's .NET managed provider.- Assisted with the development of a cross-platform C++ class library used by most Pervasive products, allowing them to be compiled with minimal modifications on several platforms including x86/Win32, x86/Linux, x86/Netware, and Sparc/Solaris.
