About Stephen Hynes
For close to 40 years of my life, I worked in real estate, with a major focus on commercial development, and enjoyed working environments across the globe, stretching from the UK to Portugal, to Spain, the UAE, Australia, Vietnam and latterly Nigeria. In 2017, during a particularly challenging economic downturn, I suffered a heart attack brought about by work related stress and anxiety.This unexpected, frightening and traumatic experience led my wife and I, to deep dive into the many aspects of Mental Health and the effects of Stress and Anxiety in the Workplace and explore. the real facts behind this disease.According to MIND, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem, while only 1 in 6 will report it.Pre-Pandemic, it was disclosed by MIND, that £8 bn was lost yearly by employers due to Absenteeism, while about £26 bn was lost due to Presenteeism. Poor mental health at work currently costs Employers about £1,600 per employee, yearly.These are massive financial consequences due to a problem that many companies and organisations probably don't even realise they are living with. When I had my heart attack, I'm sure my employer had no inkling of the daily stress and anxiety many of my colleagues and I were suffering.One must ask..what would a resilient, committed, confident, dedicated and happy team do for your work environment and the important bottom line ?SVH Inc.
