I'm currently employed by Te Whai Toi Tangata (https://www.waikato.ac.nz/professionallearning/) as an accredited facilitator. I am experienced educator and curriculum developer. Recently, I collaborated on the transition from TKI to the new online curriculum hub, Tāhūrangi, recommending and updating science resources. My work with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority involves science assessment development in 2021, 2022, and I am contracted for 2023. I have also contributed to the Science Learning Hub by writing articles on New Zealand’s space industry, Aotearoa in Space. In 2021, for the Chemed Biolive conference, I led a live streamed discussion on NCEA Change 2 and equal status for mātauranga Māori in teaching level 1 NCEA biology and chemistry. Currently I am a TLRI “On2Science” three-year project advisor, supporting teachers to integrate Online Citizen Science and science capabilities with the digital technology curriculum. During the first national level 4 COVID-19 lockdown, I wrote science episodes for students of year 7 - 10 for the Home Learning Channel 2020. In term 2 of 2023 I will be hosting a series of 3 webinars unpacking my directed study: How does the interface of mātauranga Māori and science provide opportunities for teaching and learning?As a professional development and learning facilitator I lead workshops and other PLD around integrating digital technologies and STEM education. I provide science curriculum PLD to various primary schools, including the Nga Awa ki te Moana Kāhui Ako. I am engaged in MOE-funded PLD for a primary school, focusing on the Aotearoa Histories NZ curriculum and cultural capability. I co-planned and acted as master of ceremonies at the Growing Global Citizens in Aotearoa Teacher Forum 2021, and I also write articles, curate websites, and manage social media for the Growing Global Citizenship Education in Aotearoa website as part of the Centres of Asia-Pacific Excellence education team.In my earlier career, I was the Head of Science at Taupo-nui-a-Tia College for nine years and served as Dean of Year 10 for two years and Year 11 for one year. I was also a general science and senior physics teacher at the same institution. I co-facilitated the development of a graduate profile in a secondary school, coordinated consultation of staff, students, community, and iwi. Additionally, I co-facilitated a schoolwide trial of integrated learning for year 9 and 10 students across all learning areas, informed decisions around moving to 90-minute, dual-subject lessons.
