Hired to lead the Production Department of four camera operators plus interns on a tight daily schedule to produce six half-hour episodes per week of The Naked News, with the long-term goal of moving the production to High-Definition.Ensured the fast-paced daily production ran on-schedule each day by keeping information flowing between departments in a clear and concise manner, and quickly adapting to changes.Acquired the gear that the team needed to improve the look of the show, and helped them master the use of it. Shot and directed many segments myself. Seamlessly moved production from a videotape and paper log-based SD workflow to one that was file-based and paperless that immediately saved time and money, and was ready to go HD at the flip of a switch.Spearheaded the company's transition to HD, training the Production Department and assisting the Post-Production Department with workflow to maximize the efficiency of, and collaboration between, departments.Instituted systems to track employee hours, expenses, and equipment repairs, then identified ways of reducing costs and downtime.In the words of the company's owner, I raised the bar on what was expected of and achievable by the production department, lead a production crew that was the best they had ever had, and created the best-looking episodes they had ever produced.

iSI is an Ottawa-based company that produces live webcasts for government, corporations, and university sports. I represented the company in the GTA, and worked on productions everywhere in-between. Met with existing and prospective clients to assess their needs and provide support for live events, or integrating webcasting into their existing A/V infrastructure.Served as Technical Producer for numerous webcasts, combining years of experience with computers and networking along with all aspects of video production to handle productions that ranged from webcasting a production partner's feed to planning and executing large in-house teams of camera operators, directors, TDs, and on-air talent.Solved unique problems across a wide array of events and locations, from government committee meetings to intense multi-day sports tournaments, ensuring rock-solid internet connections for live streams, and delivering high-quality and exciting video and audio productions.Whether scouting locations in advance and preparing reports and production plans, or rolling in on very short notice for late-breaking events, we always exceeded the client's expectations.Added value to live partner feeds by shooting, editing, and webcasting original interviews between games in tournaments.

For this ambitious thirteen-part hour-long travel adventure series for OLN that was shot on land, at sea, and deep underwater, in sixteen different countries around the world, I was responsible for solving the technical challenges it would face during pre-production, production, and post.Specified the camera and support gear that would make it possible to travel as light as possible while acquiring 4K footage with the RED ONE camera. Maintained and repaired the gear between episodes, and once in South Africa as an emergency field repair.Designed and found manufacturers and suppliers for several pieces of custom hardware that enhanced underwater communication and audio recording, and made above-water shooting significantly easier.Created the entire hardware and software workflow for data management in the field, allowing triple-redundant backups of 4TB of footage to be completed with very little time in some extremely remote locations.Along with an Assistant Editor, logged all of the footage and distributed it to editors working off-site, and kept all of their edits and revisions in sync back at the head office.Spurred the addition of new features to a commercial report-generating software to better automate the process of tracking music use, revisions to graphics, effects, titles and name keys, along with any special compositing or time-remapping work required for the final master, in a way that was perfectly co-ordinated and easily understood by all members of the post-production team.Designed and built a Davinci Resolve-based colour correction system for 4K RED footage, from Mac Pro modifications to workspace, monitoring, and interface.Performed the primary colour correction of all footage used in rough cuts, then when edits were locked, conformed the original 4K footage in DaVinci Resolve, collaborated on the final colour correction, and oversaw the final mastering of each episode through a heavily customized and unique workflow.

A one-stop-shop for TV shows, commercials, and corporate video, I wore many different hats during my time at Echo Bay Media.Lead small teams on corporate video shoots, lighting and shooting beautiful images in challenging conditions, and ensuring top-notch audio recording.Steadicam Operator and 1st AC on nearly two dozen major national TV campaigns. Several years in a row, Echo Bay Media produced more TV spots, and was issued more telecaster numbers, than any other production company in Canada Planned the acquisition and integration of the RED ONE camera into the company, becoming the expert on all aspects of it in production and its output in post, and serving as DIT on the shoots it was used for.
