Through the University of Georgia student experience program, I work with elementary students from throughout the Athens area. Within this program, we give students a greater understanding of the opportunities available for them at UGA post-high school graduation while also instructing them in STEM for the time that they are on UGA’s campus.

During my service as a Town of Southampton Lifeguard, I spent time working with test recruits who ranged anywhere from 16 to 50 years old. During this experience I aided the recruits in learning rescue techniques, Basic Life Support, general knowledge of the ocean and beaches that we serve and much more over weeks of classes, both in the classroom, pool and the ocean. In addition, I spent time with our Junior lifeguard programs. I aided with juniors who aged from 7 to 10 years old and in a different session 11 to 15 years old. During these classes we spent time helping juniors understand the dangers of the ocean. For the younger class, we worked on establishing water confidence and a basic understanding of how our ocean works. With the older class, we worked on skills in the water while preparing them to take the class and test. Finally, I worked with advanced juniors as a mentor. These juniors spent the day with me and experienced a day in the life of our Ocean Lifeguard crew.
