I was the Head of Transport Scotland’s Environment & Sustainability team, including leading a bespoke Air Quality team. I led an interdependent team that provided a technical expert advice, audit and verification service across all environment and sustainability aspects. Key outcomes include:• Providing Scottish Government Cabinet Secretaries (for Environment, Transport & Finance) with expert policy advice & briefings on political Programme for Government commitments, in tandem with answering Parliamentary Questions and Ministerial correspondence • Directing LEZ part of Transport (Scotland) Bill between 2017 and 2020 to a strict timetable, to create world-leading national laws, regulations and technical guidance • Managing a +£20M budget to enable fleet operators to prepare for LEZ compliance + design and implementation of new grant awards/funding processes that complied with State Aid• Leading on regular oral and written technical answers to Parliament and Ministers • Supervision of all corporate climate change (mitigation and adaptation), noise, air quality, biodiversity projects, in conjunction with managing Agency sustainability reporting duties. • Co-authored the first Scottish Climate Change Adaptation Programme, the Scottish Transport Noise Action Plan, and the Cleaner Air for Scotland strategy.• Writing and monitoring the Annual Business Plan sustainability objectives• Managing consultancy task orders, contract awards and projects set within tight budgets • Collaborating with public, private and NGO stakeholders to realise joint outcomes • Initiated school mentoring via Career Ready and mental health action with See Me Scotland• Lead author of the World Road Association ‘Air quality and Roads’ 2019 technical report• Co-creator of environment & sustainability-specific website content and social media communications.
