Chartered Patent Attorneys and Trademark Attorneys. The Oxford office was created when my practice S.G.Unwin & Co merged with Fry Heath Spence. I continued servicing my principal clients and other attorneys were brought in to service other clients and to help keep up with the expansion of work.

Patent & Trade Mark Attorney - built up own practice from scratch in the Oxford area. I learnt first hand how to set up and run a small business including word processing (initially on an Amstrad!) and creating own record system/database. Growth was initially slow (we weren't allowed to advertise in those days!) but I built up many connections in the Oxford area. Patent protection for precious metals technology (catalysts, fuel cells etc)

Automotive Technology, eg for MG, Rover, Jaguar and BL Technology. I filed patent applications for a variety of automotive technology, including the Jaguar J-gate gear shift, and was involved in protecting the groups trade marks, particularly the MG trade mark.

This was my first job in the profession. I was introduced to a wide range of technology, from high tech stuff from Seiko (watches, printers, etc) to low tech stuff - including an electronic mouse trap!I was also Honorary Secretary of the Informals (the student group of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents) organising lectures etc.
