Senior Engineering Adviser to Ophir Energy, responsible for the early facilities work for Block R, a significant gas find in deepwater Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. The work involved leading the facilities work, representing Ophir Energy at various commercial and technical meetings & presenting the facilities concepts, schedules and costs during Farm-in discussions. Subsequently Project Manager on the Conceptual field development studies for Block R (renamed the Fortuna Development).• TOTAL E&P UK. Working within the Business Development team. Responsible for delivering various subsea and facilities studies from early stages to sanction, predominately for subsea tie-ins to major gas infrastructure. In addition performed various prospect studies involving the very early definition and costing of facilities as an input to the justification of exploration drilling.

Stephen was a founder & MD of Boreas Consultants Ltd. Boreas specialised in subsea engineering, including pipelines, subsea equipment, subsea reliability & flow assurance. Stephen helped grow Boreas to about 35 staff, set up 4 different offices, and ran a number of Joint Industry Projects into new technology areas. A selected list of technical work performed is as follows:-• Rhum field option screening study & Pre-FEED study. • Buchan field re-development study. Project Manager on a fast-track investigation for Talisman Energy into replacing a top tensioned rigid riser system with a new flexible riser system, new dynamic umbilicals and some revised subsea architecture. The work extended to include various elements of follow-on engineering including ITT preparation, bid assessment, and project support. • Due diligence. Assessment of the fitness for purpose of subsea pipelines and equipment on 4 separate facilities.• Market study for new coating material. Responsible for oil & gas market study into opportunities for a new generation insulation material.

Stephen set up the Aberdeen office of APA, and grew the office to 25 staff, specializing in subsea pipeline engineering. Final role was as joint company MD. During this time he was actively involved in leading & managing a wide range of design projects & studies, on both new projects and integrity management.

Operations role, including both routine activities, offshore data monitoring and offshore intervention/repairs:• Audrey Wellhead and umbilical repair; responsible for organizing and carrying out a number of repairs to the Audrey subsea wellhead and associated gas and chemical injection pipelines• Methanol Pipeline Repair; responsible for organizing and carrying out a subsea 3 inch pipeline repair using mechanical connectors.• Riser Stress Monitoring; responsible for the planning and installation of a subsea riser elbow stress monitoring system. • Corrosion Monitoring; responsible for specifying and installing a corrosion monitoring program for the Southern Basin Gas Development pipelines• SBGD handover from Project to Operations.

Project Engineer working on the offshore construction of Conoco’s Southern Basin Gas Development (SBGD) project. Responsible for diving and rockdumping activities including the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of bids, issuing of contracts, approving procedures for construction and monitoring offshore construction activities.

Worked both as a pipeline engineer and as a materials specialist with the materials group.
