Steph Houghton MBE is a former professional footballer who is credited as a pioneer of the women's game having played a huge role in the growth of the sport. A former captain for England (the Lionesses) and Manchester City, Steph has won 121 caps for her country, representing at 3 world cups and 2 European Championships as well as representing Great Britain twice. Renowned for her defensive prowess, passing distribution and strategic vision, Steph made history for Team GB in the London 2012 Olympics by scoring their first goal in women's football, and later competed at the Tokyo 2020 games. Starting out at Sunderland, she has also played for Leeds United and Arsenal winning 5 FA cups, 3 WSL Titles and 6 League Cups. Steph retired in 2024 after a decade at Manchester City and, soon afterwards, was inducted into the Football Museum's Hall of Fame. She is now transitioning into active roles in women’s football and broadcasting. Steph is also a passionate and active campaigner for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation which was founded by her husband and former professional footballer, Stephen Darby, and his friend Chris Rimmer.
