Lectrice D'Anglais

Université Francois Rabelais, Tours

Tours, France

I spent two years working as a lecteur/lectrice at the University of Francois Rabelais in Tours, France. My work involved teaching university students a range of classes including;- Langue Vivante- This class is for English non-specialist students, aiming to improve their skills in written and oral english along with developing their presentation skills. -Langue Orale- This class focuses on the IPA (International Phonetics Alphabet) and taught students how to transcribe standard English into the IPA along with developing their English accent to replicate an RP accent. I also incorporate English listening comprehension exercises into this class. -Méthodologie/ Aide à la réussite - These two classes allow students to develop different aspects of their English. For example, in both classes I work with students to develop their analytical abilities of English articles/ debates etc. -UEO Préparer sa mobilité internationale- This is a specialised class for students wishing to study/work abroad in an English speaking country. I help students work on CVs and letters of motivation, along with teaching them how to integrate into an Anglophone country (setting up bank accounts, finding accommodation etc.) We also work on grammar and comprehension exercises. This job does not only demand a high level of professionalism whilst teaching, it requires a high level of adaptability (living in another country and adapting to new cultures/ procedures) organisation (to prepare lessons, exams and time-tabling) and team-work (working in a French university means respecting a certain hierarchy and maintaining close relationships with different departments and staff to allow an efficient teaching environment.)I have enjoyed every minute of working in this institute and believe that I have benefited hugely from this opportunity; not only as a professional but as a mature adult who is able to adapt to any situation that they are given.

Customer Service

The nature of this type of work varies, from dealing with product inventory and stock-orders, to offering the highest standard of customer service and managing the fuel pumps. As the station offers only convenience goods and fuel, this job can be extremely fast-paced, especially during peak hours, and it is important as a Sainsbury's employee to remain cool headed, attentive and efficient whilst coping under time pressure.
