About Stephen Upton

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the NZ digital wealth start up Kernel, I bring a strategic outlook and unique problem solving ability to Kernel’s team. At Kernel, we give people the few kernels they need to transform their financial future. Our mission is to create a world where all Kiwis are wealthier, more financially literate and good savings and investing behaviours are embedded for future generations. With 10 years international experience and having completed an MBA at the University of Cambridge UK, I returned to NZ in 2015 and became COO of NZX Smartshares. Prior to travelling overseas, I owned, successfully grew and sold a $1M business in Wellington.
