I am an infectious disease scientist currently working in the UK Health Security Agency where I lead the Data, Analytics and Surveillance (DAS) Group. Data are obtained, curated and analysed by many different teams at UKHSA. We in the DAS group coordinate a central function to: support legal and ethical obtaining of data; ensure that the systems on which it lands are safe from cyber attack; curate and provide data on modern analytical platforms; visualise, analyse and model those data; and then present insights from the data in a threat-agnostic format to customers across the agency and government. Prior to joining UKHSA my personal research interests were in the use of models, epi and field work to better understand respiratory viruses. During the COVID-19 pandemic I was part of the Imperial College COVID-19 Response Team, the Scientific Pandemic Influenza - Modelling committee (SPI-M) and the REal-time Assessment of Community Transmission (REACT) team. I also maintain an interest in the spatial and immunological dynamics of influenza infection.
