As Director of Developer Enablement, I lead initiatives to build tools and training resources for internal and external developers who create extensions for the MapLarge data, visualization, and analytics platform. I created and lead the continued development of the MapLarge Application Development Kit (ADK), which allows dev teams to create client-side (TypeScript) and server-side (C#) extensions for the MapLarge platform. The ADK provides CLI tools (Node and .NET), CI/CD integration, a robust UI testing framework, and a slick developer experience in VS Code that is focused on highly efficient iterative development, code compiling, packaging, and deployment of MapLarge extensions. I successfully promoted and supported a company-wide dogfooding effort to gather constant developer feedback for continued improvement of the ADK.I designed and built a custom Documentation Portal for the MapLarge platform that keeps documentation updates in sync with feature development, ensuring that docs get reviewed in the same pull requests as the code they document.I authored tutorials, reference guides, and video demos and also provided live training to external and internal development teams about the company's developer tools.The ADK and related resources were key in landing significant contracts with government and private industry clients who desired to leverage their own internal development teams to extend and customize the robust capabilities of the MapLarge platform.

As a Senior Software Engineer, I built a variety of custom applications for Fortune 500 customers and government contractors, all utilizing the robust capabilities of the MapLarge data, visualization, and analytics platform. I participated in eliciting requirements, defining project scope, and preparing SOWs. I conducted live demos for clients during the pitching, development, and post-delivery phases. I provided continuing support to clients as needed.Consistent focus on exceeding the customer's expectations resulted in repeat business on nearly every contract.I also built several core components of the MapLarge platform, including a data packaging system and a large portion of the extensibility framework.

As a board member and co-owner of the world-wide shaved ice supplier and distributor, I serve as an occasional technology consultant. Over the years, I have overseen several revamps of the company website and integrations of supply-chain and order management software systems. I also believe that a little extra syrup goes a long way in winning the heart of the customer.

As a hands-on CTO, I oversaw every aspect of the company's technical needs, including organizing and managing our internal software development team and IT infrastructure. As a member of the executive team, I was a key player in defining the overall goals for growing the company and implementing the technology necessary to achieve that growth. During the first 8 years of my tenure as CTO, I led a small team of developers to build our entirely custom e-commerce platform, including the public retail website (sewelldirect.com), online checkout, backend CRM, order management system, chat clients, inventory management system, pick and pack warehouse fulfillment system, financial reports, integration with VOIP systems, and more. We integrated with dozens of APIs, including FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon MWS, Rakuten, Google Analytics, Google AdWords, Bing Ads, Slack, and many more.As a mostly Microsoft stack, the architecture was composed of a SQL Server database (1+ billion records), several Windows service-based application servers, and ASP.NET web sites, all virtualized in Hyper-V on several physical servers in a co-located datacenter. My team and I monitored and routinely maintained the server architecture.During my last 4 years, I perceived that our efforts at building and maintaining our custom business management software were being outpaced by a maturing cadre of cloud-based e-commerce platforms. After careful study, I recommended that we move a large swath of our business applications to Shopify, while continuing to use our custom software to run our warehouse operations, inventory management, and financial reporting. I oversaw that successful migration. The move ended up saving the company over $500K annually.Over my time at Sewell Development, I played a key role in growing a fledgling, basement retail business with less than a $1 million in annual sales to a leader in several consumer electronics markets with annual sales over $11 million.

Designed and built the first several iterations of LotusJump.com, a SAAS application that provided actionable SEO tasks for websites. Technologies used: .NET, C#, SQL Server. I managed a rapidly changing roadmap based on growth opportunities in sectors pursued by our Sales team.

As the primary developer at a small, rapidly growing online retail business, I designed and rebuilt the company's custom e-commerce website, replacing a limited classic ASP + MS Access architecture with a more modern architecture based on SQL Server and ASP.NET. I built a web-based company intranet and added dozens of features to allow employees to manage inventory, ship orders, calculate financials, and update product content for the e-commerce website.The new website and intranet tools allowed the company to dramatically increase sales year over year and expand the product catalog from three SKUs to hundreds.
