I defined the software development process for my team and created infrastructure and tools to support it. I wrote software in C, C#, C++, bash script, DOS script, Python and in house test script languages.

I was Director of Software for 6 years and led the software team to finish development and go into production on 3 generations of robot.• Developed logging and debugging techniques for the software team and taught the team about root cause analysis.• Specified the UI for the robot and wrote 50% of the UI software.• When the EE and mechanical teams failed twice to bring up production in China, I and 2 other software engineers wrote tests and designed fixtures for testing the robots on the production line. I went to China, brought up the fixtures and successfully launched the production line.• Built a team of 7 superb realtime software engineers• Developed automatic documentation for all UI screens, all API commands, and several of the embedded state machines.• Delivered two more generations of the robot.• Listed on several patent applications for Neato Robotics.• Brought Agile methodologies to the Software Team.

    GuideTech made Time Interval analyzers that measure time down to the picosecond. The analyzer used a standard PC running XP as a front end, and a separate TI DSP for each pair of measurement channels. Just after the company nearly went bankrupt, I became Director of Engineering. I scaled back new features and coached the reduced engineering team to finish the newest product. This product brought the company back life.I developed and implemented calibration methods, automated SQA regression tests, diagnostics, forward and backward compatibility mechanisms, major functionalities, performed system level debug, and developed manufacturing tools. I authored approximately one third of the company’s 500,000 lines of code and approximately 90% of software documentation.

In 1986, our team built a system that executed 90 tera-ops/second with a COGS of $350,000. • Designed and implemented a custom CPU chip. There are 2700 of these chips per image processing computer. • Designed and implemented the core processing board of this same computer. There are 64 of these boards in each computer.  Designed and build a custom logic analyzer for the 200 series product.  The system captured raw image data, processed image data, defect data and alignment information. It allowed the operator to display the image information on a separate monitor, and view and analyze the alignment information on a console.  Designed and built 2 custom boards for the system, supervised the software development, and integrated all of the hardware and software.
