About Steve Ames

I have been involved in the Construction and Industrial sales industry for over 30 years. During that time I have worked in: the operating engineers #649, oil analysis lab, taught engine repair schools, the parts counter, a product support representative and general line salesman selling both construction and ag equipment. (Rented, Sold, demonstrated and delivered) I call on various construction and Industrial clients including: Mining (mostly sand & gravel), recyclers, landscapers, General Contractors, Excavators, Governmental, Utilities, and agriculture. Also included are Industrial mfg’s such as Ispat/Inland Steel, USS, Bethlehem steel and their vendors (mostly national accounts). I have interacted with different levels of management personnel, including: superintendants, purchasing agents, CFO’s and CEO’s. I also interact with manufacturers, such as Caterpillar and Volvo sales, credit and manufacturing plants.I have always managed my own territory: • Promote sales through maintaining customer relationshipsand new business development (cold calls).• Responsible for gross profit, supporting marketing plans, promotions and new product introductions.• Provide sales and customer account support. (includes: quotes, account lists, conflict resolution and collections)• Give presentations and work trade shows. (I once helped keep an equipment rodeo going that was going to be cancelled due to inclement weather.) • Promote profitability of accounts using value propositions and consultative selling.• Demonstrate products.• Conduct competitive intelligence.
