Smiley Studio is an independent after school art club for children and parents in one of the most deprived areas of the country.Smiley Studio opened on the 8th November 2013 and is currently engaging parents and children in the creation of a mosaic made entirely from seeds. My last project was creating a Guild Legacy Mural of The Beano's Backstreet Kids to celebrate the life and works of fellow Prestonian and Beano artist, Leo Baxendale.My current project; that I started recently, is running an after school animation workshop in east Preston. Using Plastacene; we will explore our relationship between the built and natural environment using the immediate surroundings as a starting point. We will also be doing animated conversations with some of the people in the area, letting them know exactly how they are going to metamorphosis into plasticise of course!

Please let me to introduce myself. I’m Steve Asbury artist in residence at St Matthews Primary school New Hall Lane, Preston, Lancashire. For the past 12 months I have been running an afterschool art club. over this time it soon bacame very apparent that there’s a popular demand for this kind of creative activity - so much so that I am oversubscribed with children wanting to come to my workshops! It’s with this in mind that I decided to open Smiley Studio as an independent creative arts space for children and their parents to attend outside of school hours. Smiley Studio works alongside other community groups including F.O.F.S who commissioned me to paint the guild mural in Ribbleton Park last year. I’d like to thank “The Big Local” for their “Quick Wins” award to sponsor Smiley Studio’s first project - “Seeds of Change”. These workshops will provide hands on introduction to seed mosaic design in a relaxed and friendly environment.
