I have been employed as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force since 1991 and currently hold the rank of Group Captain. Following initial officer and flying training, I spent 6 years as a front-line multi-engine pilot flying the Nimrod MR2 maritime patrol aircraft. In 2003 I trained and qualified as a fixed-wing experimental test pilot and spent the next 6 years employed in test and evaluation. Following staff tours in Afghanistan and at the Permanent HQ in Northwood, I completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course before returning to Test and Evaluation as the Officer Commanding of No. 206(R) Squadron, the RAF's Heavy Aircraft Test and Evaluation Squadron. Following a short spell away from command as Chief of Staff for the Air Warfare Centre Flying Division, I then completed two years as the Deputy Chief Test Pilot for the MOD, the Senior Operator to the Air Warfare Centre delivery duty holder, and the Aerodrome Operator for MOD Boscombe Down. A tour in the Military Aviation Authority as Deputy Head of Operating Assurance - Test, Evaluation & Special Tasks followed, before returning to MOD Boscombe Down in Jun 19 to take up my current role as Chief Test Pilot for the UK MOD and Station Commander.
