Started work with CSIRO Davies Laboratory, Division of Soils as a Soil Chemistry Tech in 1972. I worked for several years as a Soil Biology Tech and a Soil Physics Senior Technical Officer. In this latter role I gained exposure to Campbell Scientific data loggers which were used for several years in field experiments. During this time I obtained a Diploma in Applied Physics from UCQ and partially completed a Computer Science degree from JCU. Worked directly under Dr John Williams who was later to become Chief of the Division of Soils and on retirement was a founding member of the Wentworth group of Scientists. While in the role of Soil Physics STO, I also became Divisional IT Manager for the Division of Soils, maintaining and establishing computer networks in Townsville, Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide. I was approached by Campbell Scientific Inc to start up the Australasian Affiliate of Campbell Scientific and in 1993, took four years leave from CSIRO to establish Campbell Scientific Australia. On my retirement some 18 years later, I am proud to say that CSA was (and still is) Australia's largest player in the markets of hydrology, meteorology and geo-technology. From a one-man company to one with sales of several million dollars per annum and a staff of over 20, CSA continues to play a leading role in remote monitoring and data acquisition in Australia and SE Asia.In 2012, I managed the purchase, redesign and fit out of custom built premises for Campbell Scientific Australia - a new home for our company and its people for many years to come. I continued to serve as Chairman of the Board of Campbell Scientific Australia Pty Ltd. until October 2015 at which time I resumed the role of Managing Director and re-entered the workforce.I retired for a second time in 2016, this time for good. On retirement I served as Chairman of the Board of CSA until August 2020. I am now fully retired but I still maintain regular contact with my "second family" at CSA.
