Project Gn4-3N Network Implementation Manager

Current

Cambridge, United Kingdom

Oct 2019 - Present

London & South East Data Centre Manager

Cambridge, United Kingdom

As a result of acquisition and merger activities I ‘inherited’ more 3rd party data centre space to be managed. At its height the figures were six 3rd party data centre spaces and two where Redcentric were the owner/operator.In one of the 3rd party spaces conducted a consolidation exercise of existing hardware reducing the rack count from 20 racks to 6. This resulted in an annual saving in excess of £100k.Managed the withdrawal from 3 data centre spaces that were closed as a result of further consolidation activities.Managed a team of five field based operatives on a 24x7x365 on call rota centred on the London area. Team responsibilities included, installation and decommissioning of hardware to data centre cabinets, responding to ‘incidents’ in any of the data centre spaces and acting as remote hands & eyes, installation of hardware at customer sites as part of service delivery, attendance at customer sites in response to troubleshooting requests.Worked with both internal and external auditors in achieving ISO27001 accreditation for the Cambridge & Hertfordshire Data Centres.

Jul 2014 - Oct 2017

Datacentre Manager

Due to significant business restructuring the responsibilities of my role increased again further, resulting in promotion to Data Centre Manager. In addition to the responsibilities of the Cambridge Infrastructure Manager, I inherited management responsibility for our presence in 3rd party data centres in London and Manchester. This ranged from a few racks in common area spaces to discrete private suites housing more than 20 racks. This required me to have an in depth knowledge of formal contracts to ensure the data centre operators were compliant in terms of service delivery.During this time I also acted as the Project Coordinator for the design and fit out of a ‘state of the art’ private suite in a Hertfordshire data centre incorporating hot aisle containment systems, modular UPS sizing, Intelligent Infrastructure Management and ‘free air cooling’.

Oct 2011 - Jul 2014

Infrastructure Manager

Cambridge, United Kingdom

Promoted to assume management responsibility for the Cambridge Metropolitan Area Network and the Network Critical Physical Infrastructure (NCPI) of a small 30 rack data centre/co-location space. As well as interaction with customers, management of the data centre required interaction with suppliers regarding maintenance contracts for the NCPI including 24x7x365 call out/support service levels.During this time was the business focal point for a project to double the capacity of rack numbers to 60. The project required the 'build out' of a new space including a raised floor, an increase in the incoming utility mains electrical supply, and installation of larger standby generators, UPS systems, air conditioning plant, fire suppression systems.Acted as the Technical Project Manager for the network design and roll out of the new technology ‘Ethernet in the First Mile’ (EFM). The new technology was to replace the existing SDSL copper services and provide higher access bandwidths to customers too far from the fibre network.

Apr 2008 - Sep 2011
