Responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating the human resources function, which also includes, labor relations management, safety administration and freight claims prevention functions. Actively participates in the development of corporate vision and strategy as a member of the core leadership team. Translates strategic and tactical business plans into human resources strategic and operational plans. Develops appropriate human resources policies/procedures to enable effective management of people and to assure compliance with laws and governmental regulation, including the regulatory environment impacting the LTL motor freight transportation industry. Consistently applies policy and procedure to assure fairness and to sustain credibility with employees. Develops workforce staffing strategies and implements plans to attract, train, develop, motivate and retain talent. Spearheads efforts to ensure continued ISO 9001:2008 compliance and certification. Activities and results include: Leading a 2011 initiative to hire an additional 1,000 CDL qualified drivers (from a base of 6,200 drivers) to replace anticipated attrition due to retirement and to attract the supplemental resources necessary to provide the business the capability to meet forecasted growth. The selection process is administered almost exclusively by internal staff. Executive sponsor of a cross-functional effort to reduce lost time injuries which resulted in breakthrough (40%) improvement in lost time injury frequency in 2010 and reduced expense by $17 million. Lost time injury frequency was improved from 29,824 hours between injuries in 2009 to 42,435 hours between lost time injuries in 2010.

Reported directly to the President. Designed, implemented and directed an ISO 9002 compliant Quality Management System. Later converted to ISO 9001:2000.Directed the drafting, review and implementation of the organizations first written operations procedures. Procedures are presently used to assure consistency and to train new employees.Trained internal auditors and executed internal audit program.

Assisted the Vice President, Operations and the Terminal Managers with efforts to improve service and to optimize operational efficiency.Analyzed operational results, bid starting times, overtime, city pick-up & delivery operation and inbound and outbound dock operations and suggested opportunities for improvement.
