I sit as a panel member as part of the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) Proof of Concept funding call process. This POC process has a group of 70-80 experts from industry and academia across the UK who volunteer to review project submissions. These submissions are from companies from a wide range of industries working with NBIC partner universities. NBIC have already awarded 51 projects in two funding calls. As part of the process a moderating panel of 10 experts, independent of NBIC, meet to make final decisions on which projects to fund. This again is a mix of experts from different industry sectors and academic expertise and I’m pleased to be one of them.The National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) was formed in late 2017 as the very first BBSRC supported Innovation knowledge centre (IKC). They are tasked with building upon and leveraging existing and historical investments in Biofilm research and innovation in the UK from the Research Councils, and connecting with the industrial expertise and needs that sits across multiple sectors in businesses of all sizes.

RADMA is a Charitable Association whose aims are to foster good practice in R&D Management. It is co-proprietor with Wiley Blackwell of the R&D Management Journal. Funds are used to offer grants to students studying the discipline (e.g. PhD, M.Phil) and to encourage the transfer of best practice between R&D practitioners and academics. R&D practitioners gain by understanding new thinking in the management and organisation of R&D and academics understand the issues and problems facing industrial and academic R&D management. Dr Steve Bone has been an Innovation and Technology Management Consultant for over 20 years. Recently he has worked for clients on improving innovation capability, actioning innovation programs for growth, technology strategy and technology prospecting. Over the last few years he has focused on implementation of realistic innovation management solutions for clients in the Chemicals and FMCG, Energy, Rail and Consumer Electronics sectors. Before forming "nu Angle" Steve was on the senior leadership team of Innovation Management Inc., a Monitor Group Company (The Monitor Group was formed by Prof. Michael Porter). Previous roles include being the European Practice Leader for Arthur D. Little's Technology and Innovation Management Practice, a Director of Generics' Business Innovation Group, and a Partner with PA Consulting Group. He has also run a business unit for Thorn EMI and been a head of Advanced Materials for the Imperial Group."
