My daughter says I’m a geek; my wife says I’m a nerd…..I think I’m a bit of both, but with the added bonus of social skills ! I’m an energetic, motivated and dynamic senior leader with ten years’ experience of working to Board level. Whilst I specialise (do I, really ?) in the digital field, my passion is for seeing outcomes of business change initiatives, and firmly believe in putting people first then processes and technology can follow. Why do I get out of bed in the morning? To help other people provide a better service through the services we provide; for me that typically means helping our staff to do ‘something different’ to improve a patient experience. A proactive leader with extensive people management, motivational and negotiation skills aligned to an ability to win hearts and minds to drive transformational change throughout an organisation. Business change (or even just digital) projects and programmes are a great passion – show me a project without bumps in delivery and I’ll show you a PM wearing blinkers – projects without bumps in the road don’t exist. What I love is working together to understand what the bumps are, asking ‘why’ or ‘so what’ (a lot) and finding solutions to overcome them….then letting the people around us get on and make it all happen.I have experience in the creation and delivery of IT strategies, combining customer-experience, service management skills, and technical expertise to drive change that puts the technology second to the business ask. I seek improvements across existing service lines whether that be at a user experience or technical level, and am always looking for what’s coming down the road to greet us.I’m also happy to accept that as technology leaders we don’t always know the answers to all of the questions, and that’s just fine – knowing I can lean on colleagues to help, advise, inform and coach is what we need to embrace more.I have a strong, but balanced risk appetite, and always adopt a “can do” attitude, have a reputation for getting things done and can influence others – previously described by one supplier as “their most influential customer”.

Senior Project SurveyorRameses Associates Ltd Nov 1998 - Feb 2003Rameses are one of the UK's largest damage management specialists, dealing with domestic insurance claims. Whilst at Rameses I became involved in a wide range of projects and initially helped to develop the core business activities with the MD as the business model grew in line with its' success. Roles included setting and control of financial budgets, defining and orchestrating the projects in hand, and liaison and reporting to client organisations and top level management. Other roles included the procurement of and responsibility for the IT infrastructure serving the business, operating under a Windows server environment.Realised major efficiency improvements in what we'd now call mobile computing - taking good old paper based survey techniques and evolving them through use of Psion handheld devices, linked to mobile phones to send survey data straight back to the office straight from the car. The boss thought it was magic !

My other key role within the business involved project procurement and management of the in-house design team for some major UK based construction projects, delivering architectural joinery packages throughout the UK, often to tight timescales and tight budgets, reporting to the technical director and MD, in addition to dealing with the routine internal workings of the design office.

Roles included all phases of project procurement, from inception through to completion, dealing with both major and minor capital schemes ranging from £50k to £4m, spanning the complete range of local authority property portfolio. Highlights include working as part of the design team for Staffs Fire & Rescue Service HQ, new police stations and a secure unit for young offenders....to name a few.Being interested in IT, I got heavily involved in the development of the Council's CAD system for the drawing offices, and left the organisation as one of the "go to" people for all things CAD related, as well as being one of a small team of staff who were involved in 3D modelling and computer generated walk-through's. All very high-tech back then.....running on a Compaq 286 PC.The private sector however lured me away.........
