Founded CHW INDUSTRIES, INC. and its subsidiaries in north central West Virginia for the purpose of mining and marketing coal reserves. In November 1987, negotiated sale of company to Bentley Coal Company, a partnership of Amax Coal Company and Petrofina Oil Company; served as president and chief operating officer of the new mining venture.• Planned, designed, permitted, developed and operated 6 underground mines, 3 surface mines, preparation plant, loadout, and refuse site.• Managed day to day business activities, including cost containment and generation of revenue.• Devised short and long-range financial forecasts for operating, capital investment, and marketing.• Coordinated all phases of operations, including employee selection, labor relations, mining sub-contractors, equipment purchases, purchasing activities, facility design and construction, administration, and production scheduling.• Evaluated 40,000 acre multi-seam property, using core and quality analysis and designed a site specific mine plan to use a combination of mountaintop and contour surface mining and drift and shaft underground mining.• Managed real estate holdings by acquiring, leasing, subleasing, and renting properties.• Negotiated and administered all coal sales for domestic export and industrial buyers.
