Sales DirectorVanguard Fixings Ltd May 2002 - Sep 2004I rejoined Vanguard Fixings with a brief to set up a new division based in the Midlands supplying specifically Mech & Elec Contractors. This i did do for them, successfully procuring an entire new and full range of additional products & services falling into the First Fix, Containment & Repeat Purchase Consumables category. I was responsible for the smooth and swift implementation of this project at every level within the business. Producing a 128 page product catalogue, sales & marketing support literature for the sales team whilst being personally responsible for developing new business in the Midlands and Southern Ireland, whilst increases sales with the existing customer base.From joining in May 2002 through to January 2003 this project produced record sales growth across the group exceeding all targets set including Revenue, GP, Supplier Rebates etc. I was appointed Sales Director reporting to my Dublin based Chairman in February 2003 with total responsibility for the sales performance of the groups sales with 24 sales staff throughout 3 locations (Southampton/Birmingham/Dublin) whilst retaining a direct sales role personally, as I have done throughout my Career. -
Director / General Manager / Co-FounderHills Electrical & Mechanical Plc - Operational Resources Feb 2000 - May 2002Following Discussions and Presentation to David Hill CEO I relocated with my wife and young children to the midlands and started from scratch an "in house" supply company for Hills Elec & Mech Plc "operational resources" David Hill and I drew up and Implemented The Business Plan for this National M&E Contractor to own and develop its own supply chain starting with a distribution business supplying the First Fix & Containment materials to all regional centres projects across the country with at the time a collective turnover approaching £100mI was responsible for every aspect of starting and growing this new venture for Hills Plc from identifying negotiating and purchasing suitable premises, project managing the building works required on the new site. Recruiting & Training all staff, identifying and having installed all hardware and software packages,telecommunication systems. Also sourced suppliers for the 3000 product lines negotiating costs, creating a stock profile and setting up sales prices. Produced all sales and marketing literature including a 200 page colour illustrated product catalogue.operational resources although an in house business within the Hills Group still had to compete with Hills historic suppliers for the business and so I had challenge of devising and implementing a sales strategy for selling into what at times was a hostile environment! I grew this business from £0 to a service driven distribution business with a turnover of £2.3m and consistent margins of 30%+ in a little over 2 full trading years! 6 months after I left this business dissolved! .

My main duties were to develop their sales & business as a supplier of first fix /Cable Management/Support Systems into a new as well as their current M&E client base. I did this successfully by way of new product introductions sales staff training & development and by personally securing National Supply Agreements with a number of UK's Largest Contractors inc Hills Plc, EIC, ABB Steward, Emcore Drake & Scull, CHt among others. These initiatives and secured agreements added a further £2.9m to the companies turnover during my brief employment. I left amicably to start a new business venture for one of my largest clients, Hills plc. -

Upon leaving school I started a YTS trainee scheme at the golf centre and later became a PGA qualified assistant professional. After a failed attempt at gaining a tour card it6 was clear that I was never going to be good enough to make a living playing Golf and so when a sales job was offered to me by a sponsor I jumped at it.
