As a member of the academy committee I monitor the provision the the careers curriculum at this school. A successful biochemist/immunologist with a good track record for attracting funding and managing projects. Enjoyed working at the interface between biochemistry and physical sciences. Learnt a number of techniques including peptide synthesis, immunochemistry, animal work and cell culture. Also gained experience with a number of molecular modelling programs. In 1994 move to the molecular enzymology group to work on antioxidants and protein damage. Again acquired new skills including enzymology, sub cellular fractionation and working with human tissues. Gain a number of good publications in a fast growing field. Then moved to a DTI LINK funded project to quantify the bread making quality of wheat. This brought my first experience of project management. At the end of the FSA project I applied successfully to for work on an FSA funded project looking at nut allergies collaborating with a group from Addenbrooks Hospital. After the departure of the project leader to Leeds University, I accepted the opportunity to manage this project. In 2000 I started work in the newly formed Gut Immunology group exploring the allergen interactions with T-cell and dendritic cells. Gained funding from the FSA for a Fish speciation project in 2001 and managed the project and scientists working on the project. In 2003 started investigating digestion and transport of allergen with regard to sub cellular structures which gained core funding in a cross project between the G1 and F1 departments. Gained funding from Yakult in 2004 for a study into Probiotics and Hayfever. Acquired the required skills to compile a Human Ethics application for this study and the food handling training to contribute to this work. During 2006 I forged links with the bio imaging group to develop novel live cell imaging of cell surface receptors with the atomic force microscope.
