In this role I was given much more responsibility with the Learning Assistant product. I spent further time with our support centre making sure that the development team could help with any issues or make their lives a little easier when it came to customer interaction. By attending support meetings in both our London and Glasgow offices I was able to drastically improve our maintenance and ticket queues. We went from a running total of 350 active support tickets down to 5. I initially introduced Trello, a team collaboration tool, as well as bringing in Slack, a real-time team communication web app, in order to allow developers more flexibility to work from home when needed. Through working with various department heads I was able to smoothly introduce remote working to the team and give them the support needed to work effectively. From the start of my appointment I was the main development lead in moving our hosting from a co-location setup to Microsoft Azure. 2 years later I was also involved in a successful migration to Azure Classic to ARM. We eventually moved onto Microsoft Teams and switched our version control from SVN to GIT, under the wrapper of Azure DevOps. Integrating this with TeamCity we reduced our deployment times from 2+ hours to 20 minutes. I continued with my ColdFusion development in this role by helping out with maintenance and support tickets. I was also the technical owner for different projects based on the Learning Assistant codebase, eventually being the core component in a number of different products within the business. Namely PIVOT, City & Guilds Get to Gateway, and the City & Guilds Moderation Portal. Ultimately, within the role, I made sure that the other developers were able to do their job. If there were any issues with their day to day activities then it was my duty to solve them. I balanced the needs of the development team with customer requests, as well as being an escalation point between our 1st and 2nd line teams.

Continuing my Senior Developer role, I moved towards taking on total ownership of the e-portfolio and API code base. It's my role to make sure that the code is maintained and that customer feedback is taken into consideration with development. I also manage the second line support of the Learning Assistant product through the Trac ticketing system. It is my job to make sure that the developers can continue with their work without interruption by dealing with management and customers alike. Working with IT is a huge part of the job in order to make sure that the infrastructure is correct for the needs of the product and the developers. We are currently transitioning to a full VM solution whilst adding a brand new PreProduction and QA environment.

Hired to work on the Learning Assistant e-portfolio, I was responsible for developing and maintaining their ColdFusion applications. This included front-end development using technologies such as jQuery, Knockout, and the latest CSS/HTML standards. My work also included researching and developing their ILR funding module. Taking data from the system and transforming it into XML, I was able to replace the funding body LIS software by fully validating within ColdFusion and MSSQL.

Globusmedia is a company dedicated to helping clients manage their online identity. Clients have access to three in-house products: Brandworkz – a digital asset management system, Contentworkz – a content management system and Emailworkz – an email marking system. I was responsible for their in-house CMS. This was eventually rewritten to a custom Object Orientated framework with greater emphasis on front end API. All client database calls were converted to MSSQL which was already being used by the in-house Digital Asset Management software.My responsibilities included working alongside the ColdFusion team, working on all the in-house software products, advising/scoping out client projects and architecting new features from paper to production. As the front-end team increased in size It was my duty to manage their interactions with the ColdFusion team. I evaluated any problems, from both sides, and produced solutions that everyone could work with.

Using the knowledge gained from my spare time, I created a bespoke E-Commerce website selling white goods.This involved an administrative section through which the manager, and selected users, could maintain an up-to-date product catalogue as well as track an order from creation to delivery to invoice recording from manufacturers. All financial statistics were worked out in real time. With the website running in ColdFusion and using a MySQL database, customers received a quick and easy purchase. Work was regarded as part time due to my college and university commitments. College/University was 3 days per week and, outside of educational/study time, I worked for Direct Appliances.
