Responsible as Site Leader for 20 staff at two UK premises. This in addition to leading product lifecycle in accordance with accredited ISO9001 standards; from identification of market need to detailed specification, through development phases and qualification and certification.Achievements include:Worked on several global projects utilising the new Satellite Laser Illumination Projection System: in the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Curtin University in Perth, were the first to install with a dome and a blended widescreen system into their HIVE Suite.Continuously proving product suitability for our large market presence in the USA – by testing to FCC/FDA and UL (Underwriters Laboratory) standards as well as British and European.Continued to build strong and close relationships with the International Sales and Market Teams and the parent company Executives: Monthly presentations showing progress of major projects, meeting new and evolving targets, performance against budgets. Somewhat less formally, yet critically, by maintaining open and easy communication with the Global Team members and our shared customers.

Responsible for leading a team of 10 Engineering staff, liaising with Taiwanese parent Company to create a harmonized product range.Achievements included: Developed and brought to market a radical modular approach to projection, whereby the light source operates remotely to the projector, coupling RGB lasers via a novel fibre-optic light pipe.Led the Team in the development of new skills, specifically the specialist control and accurate power management of RGB Lasers, fibre-optic light pipe design and thermal management, safety interlock systems and compliance with US, FDA regulations.

Responsible for managing a team of engineers and technicians, taking the responsibility for the generation of new Projector chassis.Achievements included:Leading the 'London Underground' Project... developing a specialised projector for Cross-Track Projection, which as well as being stunning in a bright environment, had to meet the stringent environmental and safety constraints of the London Underground. Collaborated with several partners, led by CBS Outdoor, and involving Transport for London, 7th Sense and Roush Performance. The 'unique’ solution we developed was patented.Part of team who installed the world’s first DLP Cinema Projector, for which the Company won an Emmy for its contribution to Digital Cinema.I grew to become the Company expert in Simulation and 3D stereoscopic projection, developing the first compact 3D projector and installing multiple units in a blended dome at Norrkoping Visualisation Centre in Sweden.Continued with this work to established a relationship with Bauhaus University and develop Multi-View Technology.

In the first five or so years at Digital Projection, my involvement and responsibilities with the company grew: not only with further optical design, but also in the selection of components, sub-systems and the processes necessary for the design and manufacture of full products.

As part of my Master Degree in Optics and Electro-Optics, I needed to find a company that specialised in these disciplines to do my MSc dissertation with. I had come across Digital Projection (then Rank Brimar) a year or so earlier, and knew that they were working on some pretty advanced, technologically ground-breaking ‘electro-optic’ products. I convinced them to take me on as in Intern and allow me to do an MSc. project with them. It was only after all the necessary NDA’s were in place, and I got to explore their operation more fully, that I discovered they were working in partnership with Texas Instruments in Dallas, on the recently invented Digital Micromirror Device [DMD]. This was TOP SECTRET back then, but now most people will be familiar with the technology, in as much as it’s the (dominant) core image generating component in Digital Cinema projectors, and was an enabler for those fantastic 3D movies that we could all go and watch. Today, they’re well established in many projectors, including those you can buy from the ‘High-Street’, identified by the Texas Instruments DLP logo.During the first six months of working with the Team, I was involved in a great deal of original work, helping to move toward solving many of the technological challenges. My dissertation work ran alongside, and in concert with this, as I designed and tested several prism assemblies utilising beam separation by Total Internal Reflection (TIR). This technique wasn’t being used at the time, but is now commonplace in single and three chip projection.
