Shared management responsibility with partner but with particular responsibility for our own areas of expertise. I was therefore responsible for management of production and engineering functions (including maintenance management, process design and project management) and also administration functions (including all financial management, accounting and human resource functions). Significant changes in the business were initiated during our period of ownership with regard to improvement of the business to meet more stringent environmental legislation, which has required implementation of waste minimisation programs, improvement of production facilities, productivity and turnover. Business employed 25 people and had a turnover of R2.5m (A$625000). Exchange rates however do not adequately reflect relative buying power.Achievements• Improved standard of equipment and processes utilised.• Improved productivity and reduced costs (particularly waste) thereby increasing profitability. An important example of waste minimisation was reduction of water consumption from 30kl per day to 6kl per day whilst increasing production 100%.• Doubled turnover of business with 25% increase in personnel• Achieved compliance with all environmental legislation. The business previously had a very poor record.• Participated as industry delegate in negotiation with local authorities for implementation of new trade effluent disposal bylaws and associated industry standards.• Increased valuation of business by125%.
