About Steve Danielson

I am a conductor in the field of choral music with a doctorate degree (DMA) in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington. I spent eleven years as a high school choral director, two years as directors of the University of Washington Singers, and now conduct the Ensign Symphony & Chorus, a semi-professional organization in Seattle. As a teacher, I emphasize elements of improvisation in the choral rehearsal to help strengthen musicianship in the singers. In my classroom, respect, high expectations, and quality outcomes create an atmosphere of inclusion and belong among a diverse student body. My dissertation topic revolved around folk song collections from England, Ireland, Wales, Nova Scotia, and New England, especially a recently uncovered collection by Carrie Grover. I also have a desire to bring the choral music of Slovakia to the American audience and have begun research in this field.
