I am the Head of Technical Standards leading the Technical Standards Group for National Highways and the head of the specialism relating to United Kingdom Technical Standards for roads - The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW). My Group is delivering the new MCHW (which includes the United Kingdom's Specification for Highways Works by March 2025 that will be used for construction and maintenance of all motorway and all-purpose trunk roads in the United Kingdom and often used by other road authorities in the UK and elsewhere in the world. To support this I am leading the continued development of world-leading software to support the collaborative development, review, approval and publication of the new MCHW. I lead the management of departures from standards process for National Highway and lead our involvement in the National Highway Sector Schemes that provides assured competency of operatives and organizations that work in the UK Highway Sector.
Principal Advisor And Team Leader - Technical Assurance And Governance
I am leading the implementation of the Review of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges to improve the structure, usability and content. This involves a complete re-write of the DMRB by March 2020 utilising the latest technology for creation, management, publication and archiving of materials. I am leading the development of a innovative software called Collaborative Authoring and Review System (CARS) to assist in the development, peer review, approval, publication and archiving of DMRB content that will operate across the UK Trunk Road Authorities. In addition I am leading on the application of agile development techniques traditionally used for software development to the development of DMRB content to improve turnaround times.I lead on the policies on departure from standards and also lead on Highways England’s involvement in the National Highway Sector Schemes
Area 6 & 8 Contract Transition Lead
I led the very successful demobilisation of the existing Asset Support Contract in Areas 6 & 8 and mobilised the new Asset Support Contract in a very challenging time frame. This is including the selection and recruitment of a number of contract negotiators and programme office staff followed by the redeployment of these staff and handover of the contract in to business as usual.
