Dr. Steve Deverel’s professional experience includes 10-years of hydrologic and geochemical research, project leadership, and organizational management at the U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Division, and over 20 years in hydrologic consulting. He is a founding principal at HydroFocus, Inc., a hydrologic consulting firm in Davis, California. Steve analyzes groundwater systems, quantifies chemical and physical processes in soils, and evaluates groundwater- and surface-water quality. While at the USGS, he conducted research on hydrologic and geochemical processes affecting water quality and salt transport in Central Valley groundwater. He also co-taught courses in Groundwater Solute Transport Investigation and Aqueous Geochemistry at the UGSG National Training Center and the University of California at Davis. Steve’s recent relevant project activities include applied research in processes affecting groundwater water quality and transport of drinking water constituents of concern. Steve has extensive experience with agricultural drainage and water quality issues in the western San Joaquin Valley and constituent migration studies as part of the Willow Slough Watershed Project in Yolo County. He also served as the project leader for the baseline groundwater quality assessment for the Sacramento Valley for the Central Regional Water Quality Control Board Irrigated Lands Program, and currently is an invited member of the Regional Board’s Groundwater Monitoring Working Group. He received his Ph.D. in Soil and Water Science from the University of California at Davis in 1983 and is a Registered Hydrologist with the American Institute of Hydrology, a California licensed professional geologist and a Texas licensed professional geoscientist.
