Recent focus on fairness and explainability of (black-box) machine learning models, via analyses of their decision surfaces. Used genetic algorithm techniques and explored model behavior via latent spaces driven from auto-encoders. Major contributor to translating research into delivered product.Extensive work on deep NLP models, implemented in PyTorch. This included both classification and sequence-to-sequence labeling tasks, plus an approach to model explanation via constrained proxies trained to reproduce black-box model output distributions. This also involved extraction and processing of large datasets (circa 1Tb) using streaming processing pipelines using Haskell.

Core platform engineering, working on the inference engine, and the company's commerce platform. My day-to-day job involves API design, distributed service design, machine learning models, and micro-service coding using functional paradigms (principally using Scala).

Team lead for the Novell Replication Services development team. Novell Replication Services provided near-realtime replication of NetWare filesystems between NetWare servers, to create a distributed filesystem.

IBS was a startup, developing a distributed filesystem for networks of Macintosh computers. I joined as the 6th member of the engineering team and worked on incremental metadata replication, and distributed communications providers that underpinned the replication.IBS was acquired by Novell in 1992
