About Steve Harrison

I am the Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety at Owens Community College, where I oversee a 22-person safety department that serves two campuses. With a Master of Criminal Justice Administration (MCJA) from Boston University and more than 30 years of experience in the criminal justice profession, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role.My core competencies include supervising and training 14 sworn police officers and eight civilian staff, conducting and overseeing criminal, internal, and background investigations, managing crisis intervention, terrorism, and homeland security issues, and coordinating and communicating department policies and procedures to the college community. I am also a certified basic unit instructor through the Ohio Peace Officer Commission, and I have taught various criminal justice topics at the college level. My mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Owens Community College, and to foster a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration among the department and the college community.

Analyzes statistics and trends in order to formulate an effective response to crime and requests for services. - Conducts hazard and vulnerability assessments on college buildings and infrastructure.- Compiles and submits statistics and data for Annual Security Report in compliance with the Clery Act, VAWA, and Title IX requirements.
