About Steve Hudson

As a seasoned practitioner with over three decades in Software Development and a track record of establishing Enterprise Architecture functions, I offer invaluable expertise to organizations that recognize the pivotal role of architecture methods in achieving business strategies and fostering a high-performing solution delivery capability.I've shaped progressive Enterprise and Solution Architecture capabilities for major business-critical initiatives at companies like Disney Parks & Resorts, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Universal Parks & Resorts, and Hilton Grand Vacations. As a consultant, I played a key role in shaping architecture practices for teams at Lowes and Wyndham Vacation Ownership. My roles have spanned Lead Architect, Director, and partner in a boutique architecture consulting firm, where I led a thriving organization with $3.3M in annual revenue before acquisition. My approach involves synthesizing industry Enterprise Architecture Frameworks like TOGAF and Zachman into a bespoke practice tailored for the organization. Embracing standards such as UML, ERD, and BPMN, I craft architectural artifacts that are consistent, complete, high-quality, and unambiguous – embodying the practical application of architecture theory, philosophy, and standards.Recognizing the importance of Conceptual, Logical, and Physical abstraction levels, each addressing the 6 interrogatories – WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, HOW, and WHY – I delineate distinct architectural disciplines. Business and Solution Architecture are Conceptual and Logical abstraction layers, while Application, Data, and Infrastructure Architecture serve as Physical abstractions. This framework underscores the integration of process and information with business strategy. To cultivate an effective architecture capability, I initiate by crafting the Vision, Mission, and Strategy, establishing the organizational "North Star." I define processes and methodologies, documenting standards, principles, guidelines, patterns, best practices, and training materials for governance, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and scalability. Additionally, I create communications collateral to elucidate architecture products and services to executive leadership and across IT and Business organizations.

  • Celeratus Llc
    Unqork Product Architect
Celeratus Llc Jul 2023 - Present
Leveraging my extensive architectural expertise and leadership, I've committed to developing innovative architecture tools to transform the No-Code solution development landscape. In the realm of No-Code solutions, a significant amount of development time is often devoted to analyzing modules and configurations for understanding, debugging, and performance enhancement. These tools aim to revolutionize this process by automating laborious tasks, sparing developers from repetitive and potentially error-prone efforts. The outcome is a substantial reduction in the time invested, promoting a more efficient and streamlined approach to No-Code solution development.
  • Hilton Grand Vacations
    Director Of Enterprise Architecture
Hilton Grand Vacations Apr 2021 - Jul 2023
    Orlando, Fl, Us
As the leader of as many as fifteen architects comprised of employees, contractors, and consultants, I oversaw assignments across many strategic business initiatives.  I instituted the principles of visibility, repeatability, and scalability in how the team operated.  I then standardized architectural processes by implementing them in ADO as Kanban Boards, Dashboards, and Sprints. I also used BPMN, UML, and OpenAPI to standardize methods and artifacts produced to support program planning and software development. The primary mission of the Enterprise Architecture Team was to transition the Business away from an amorphic platform of disparate poly-monolithic systems that have redundant capabilities, information, and business processes.  I applied a phased roadmap approach that incrementally moved toward a future state event-driven architecture designed to be highly adaptive and composable.  This vision included the notion of loosely coupled, highly cohesive, narrowly focused, reusable Microservices and Micro UIs that are independently deployable. My core tenets for the team were separating functional business from non-functional technical concerns, and working collectively and collaboratively with Product Management and Development teams, and that architectural artifacts must be managed as first class knowledge assets and placed under version control. Creating logical models to describe the functional and structural aspects of solution architectures was the heart of the practice, then using those models to produce OpenAPI service specifications and data models. Reference architectures and standards addressed the non-functional aspects of constructing those solutions as cross-project artifacts.
  • Capco
    Unqork Solution Architect
    Capco Nov 2020 - Apr 2021
    London, Uk, Gb
I was assigned to work on projects with Unqork, a no-code product company, following an intensive boot camp. As a solution architect, I contributed to two projects, the first being a Case Management application for NassauRe, an insurance company. This project faced challenges due to inadequate documentation and high turnover. To address these issues, I introduced modeling techniques using PlantUML, visualizing the application's information model and component architecture, including integration with 3rd-party systems. The second project involved building an application for the federal COVID Rent Relief program. This application was designed to allow the configuration of regulatory rules for each state and county. Despite the success of these projects, I chose not to continue beyond the contract term as I sought to avoid a long-term contractor role.
  • Universal Parks & Resorts
    Enterprise Solutions Architect
    Universal Parks & Resorts Jan 2018 - Dec 2020
    Orlando, Florida, Us
I established formal Enterprise and Solution Architecture processes for Universal's parks and resorts, implementing them using Confluence and no-cost modeling tools like Plant UML. These tools facilitated easy navigation of the entire architecture through graphical artifacts, including Use Case Models, Component Models, Sequence Diagrams, and Class Diagrams, along with Wiki pages describing architectural strategies and service interfaces. The Class Diagrams were part of an Ontology practice that developed a repository of enterprise patterns expressed as business-facing Information Models. This repository served as a business vocabulary for expressing strategy, rules, and requirements, and it was leveraged to generate a sophisticated OpenAPI RESTful service-oriented architecture. This approach brought clarity to business intent and streamlined solution design, development, and testing by creating reusable artifacts, reducing errors, and enhancing solution quality. As the leader of the Solution Architecture Review Board (SARB), I oversaw a core governance process for architectural deliverables and facilitated collaboration across the enterprise. The SARB served as a forum for stakeholders throughout the Solution Life Cycle, including Product Owners, Business Analysts, PMO, Architects, Designers, Lead Developers, and QA. Meetings covered various reviews, such as Use Cases, Component Architecture, Information Models, Use Case Realizations, API Designs, and Software Demonstrations.I successfully persuaded the Senior Leadership Steering Committee to establish an Enterprise Ontology team, spanning business areas and technology teams. They appointed me to lead this team, aiming to create a unified representation of business concepts and terminology through enterprise-wide business information and capability models. These models were utilized to identify and articulate project opportunities, jump-starting selected projects approved by the PMO.
