Following completion of an engineering apprenticeship at Swan Hunter Shipbuilders on Tyneside I left to take up the opportunity to study for a degree in Human Movement Studies at Leeds Polytechnic. I graduated in 1988 with a 2:1 (Hons) degree. From this point I was keen to develop my education further and received an M.Phil in exercise and health in 1993. I used this as the springboard to begin an academic career and worked at Lancaster University on a 6 month contract before leaving for my position at London South Bank University. Whilst at LSBU I have obtained SEDA accreditation a PGCHE and become a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. I have also obtained L3 ILM qualification and held academic management roles, including: Course Director (BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science); Subject Group Lead for Sport and Exercise Science; Deputy Head of Division Human Sciences; Head of Division of Human Sciences. I am Driven academic manager with a proven track record of enhancing academic programs and fostering a collaborative learning environment. I am passionate about supporting staff in developing and leveraging innovative pedagogical methodologies and promoting student experience, engagement, employability and positive outcomes. I am committed to supporting academic development and ensuring the highest standards of academic excellence. I am responsible for the day-to-day management of my staff and oversee academic operations, including program management, scheduling, and resource allocation across a diverse portfolio of academic prgrammes that include; sport and exercise science, forensic science, biomedical science and pharmaceutical science. Through my management style I promote a culture of belogning and autonomy ensuring staff are able to achieve in terms of institutional and personal objectives, facilitating oportunity for professional growth and development. I strive to promote a culture of academic innovation and continuous improvement within the division.I have extensive expereince developing, and delivering academic programmes in the field of sport and exercise science. I am also expereinced in both leading the validation of degrees and as a validation panel member and chair. I have held the position of external examiner at a number of UKHE institutions, providing feedback and support on academic quality and standards. My research interests are focused on cardiorespiratory physiology; exercise health and wellbeing; strength and conditioning and exercise performance and strategies to cope in challenging environmental consditions.
