I'm passionate about getting technology out of the Lab and into the world where it can make a difference. I help founders build businesses that work and help them navigate the challenges on the journey from Lab to market. I've got the scars from doing it myself - I have a PhD in physics and a strong R&D background in optics and display technology. I've been an academic, worked in government Labs and corporate R&D before co-founding and leading a tech start-up. I'm now an experienced chair, mentor and consultant helping others on their journey.I'm currently the chair of three tech companies, and an advisor and mentor to others.

My research background is in the physics of optical devices. I was a technical lead at HP Labs, Bristol, and I worked on next generation display technologies where I combined work on high efficiency optics with nanotechnology and the development of novel materials and new manufacturing techniques. Our group developed a novel architecture for colour reflective displays and demonstrated a plastic prototype display. Previously we developed bistable technologies which enable high resolution images that persist when the power is removed. These are key steps towards our goal of realising paper-like displays.
