Since 1985 I have been involved in the conversion of content…consisting of text, graphics, video, and so on…to formats that can be displayed from a hard drive, CD-ROM, DVD, or the Internet. Projects include:Microsoft Programmer's LibraryPublished in 1988, this was one of the first commercial CD-ROMs produced by Microsoft, and was a collection of all available documentation on Microsoft programming languages. Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia ConversionIn 1989 I managed the project to convert the 25-volume Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia from the typesetting files used to print the books to a new proprietary format. Microsoft used this data in the initial Encarta CD-ROM.Mount St. Helen Visitor Center Interactive KioskThis interactive-videodisc-driven kiosk was developed in 1990 for the 10th anniversary of the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. It made dozens of video clips and thousands of photographs from before and after the eruption available via a touch-screen interface. Jane Sallis was the creative person on this project and I did the programming.The Mount St. Helens Volcano: Fire and Life in 1992This was a 1992 re-purposing of the information used in the above kiosk, for use by Educational School District 112 in Vancouver, Washington. It included software that students could use to generate their own multimedia reports based on the videodisc.Microsoft Mastering SeriesMastering Series titles were a multimedia learning experience for developers, incorporating sound, video, graphics, and animation with thorough technical training.Quick Course SeriesCD-ROM based versions of the Quick Course series of books published by OTSI.pubStudio authoring environment, viewer, and titles. Microsoft Learning CoursesProduced in 2013, the MSL courses consist mostly of videos, simulations, and quizzes, primarily for delivery online.
