I serve as the Horticulturist II at Georgia Institute of Technology’s Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design(KBISD). Working with leaders in STEAM, I am responsible for maintaining the grounds and gardens, showcasing regenerative ecological practices. The KBISD is governed by the Living Building Challenge, embracing biodiversity, pollinator habitat creation and establishing natural balance to a landscape free of herbicides and fossil fuels. Maintenance of the KBISD grounds relies on extensive native plant knowledge and an understanding of the complex ecological relationships that weave together a vibrant diverse landscape. I have the privilege of working with global leaders in environmental science and some of the brightest students in the country. It is my role to highlight the intricate relationships in the garden between the plants, pollinators and wildlife. In maintaining the grounds using the principles of regenerative ecology the emphasis is placed soil development, proper plant care and fostering dynamic natural relationships. This immersive experience permits visitors to KBISD to witness the interaction between the worlds of the insects and that of the plants. The creation of a rich nourishing environment draws in a variety of birds, elevating the garden experience. Soils at KBISD are nourished with shredded leaf litter and organic debris is composted. In this position I also work with students at KBISD as well as in gardens across campus, including a student led vegetable garden and a newly approved faculty led pollinator garden. These campus wide initiatives strengthen the learning environment and bring regenerative ecology into central focus. Our next task at KBISD will be to shepherd the property through the International Living Future Institute’s certification process, where governed by the petals of the Living Building Challenge we will become the first certified Living Building in the Southeastern United States.

The Student Commons, Wenn Student Center, Olympic Campus Recreation Center and the world-renowned Clough Undergraduate Learning Center Rooftop Gardens are among my team's responsibilities. President and Chief Executive Officer. From $1000 in seed money, built a company that grossed $200,000 annually. Responsiblities included meeting new and existing clients, communicating schedules, establishing budgets, managing change orders and engaging in continuing correspondences while coordinating project labor and materials. Working closely with clients, developed sustainable designs, provided estimates, coordinated the installation and maintenance of gardens and landscapes. Selected, planted and encouraged the use of native plants. Trained employees on proper installation and maintenance techniques, coordinated with subcontractors and vendors and inspected all work. Supervised all work to guarantee customer satisfaction and upon completion of tasks created invoices to properly bill clients for all labor and materials. Scheduled regular weekly, bi-monthly and monthly maintenance while coordinating diverse large and small installation projects. Using Web-based QuickBooks Software, Gardener at Large provided paperless estimates, invoices, schedules and statements. Created and maintained the Gardener at Large website. Communicated with clients as needed to update projects, varify changes and confirm the authorization of work. A Japanese garden created by Gardener at Large was featured in July 2005 Atlanta Magazine.

Employee of the Quarter, 1997. Implemented plan for eradication of non-native invasive plants. Landscaper, Carter Center, duties included maintenance of grounds, Japanese gardens and flowerbeds.
