Led a team of 120 technical staff providing outsourced technology services to health care, public safety, and transportation clients. The team provided technical service desk, system administration services, network administration services, technology deployment services, and hardware maintenance across the continental United States. Responsible for Intergraph’s hardware maintenance organization at the time of the dissolution of Intergraph Computer Systems. The team included over 300 hardware support and logistics personnel servicing clients throughout the United States. Mr. Powers managed the fulfillment of Intergraph’s warranty and maintenance commitments while evolving the hardware maintenance organization into a profitable organization providing outsourced IT support services. Profitably wound down Intergraph’s field service team while fulfilling customer commitments. Provided technical direction, business development, strategic planning, and financial control. Led the creation of an IT Services business unit with the viable core of the field service team. Developed team expertise in technical call center, networking, telephony, field deployment, and staff augmentation.

Developed a 25-person network consulting and deployment practice that complemented Intergraph’s sale of computer hardware to thousands of US customers and grew the organization to more than $15M in annual revenue. The team supported computer sales through connectivity solutions that tied the computers together. In this role, Mr. Powers developed partnerships with multiple vendors including MCI, Cisco, Nortel, Raptor, and Checkpoint. Responsible for profitable business execution, for setting direction, and for forging partnerships. Profitably wound down the business following the dissolution of Intergraph Computer Systems

Led a team of 30 professional technical, programmatic, and sales staff providing custom software development and deployment services to State Departments of Transportation nationwide. The solutions developed employed a mix of Intergraph’s GIS technology and open source to provide a modern and cost effective solution to specific transportation needs in over-dimension vehicles, linear referencing, and roadway safety. Mr. Powers managed the P&L, led business capture, program management, and technical delivery. Grew Intergraph’s US Transportation sales from $3M in 2011 to $16M in 2015. Developed partnerships with industry leaders like Cambridge Systematics and GeoDecisions. Developed and delivered annual financial and technical growth plans. Gained a leading market position in the sale of solutions to route over-dimension vehicles safely

Mr. Powers led a team of 10 sales professionals focused on the book and bill sale of GIS and Photogrammetric software. Mr. Powers built the team, hired the team leadership, set and oversaw sales goals, managed pipelines, drove deal reviews, and resolved technical and pricing issues. Built the sales team to focus on commercial sales. Established sales objectives and drove pipeline. Collaborated with the product development team to identify and justify the creation of industry focused solutions incorporating Intergraph GIS technology

Managed networks, telecommunications, web, e-mail, and security for Intergraph Corporation. At the time Intergraph was a Fortune 500 company with over 11,000 employees in over 30 countries. Directed 20 employees responsible for Intergraph’s internal data networks, telephone systems, e-mail system, and Web presence. Set direction for and oversaw operation of data and voice networks serving over 90 offices. Guided the implementation and operation of NT domain and e-mail services for 8,500 users. Responsible for negotiating telecommunications contracts for the corporation, reducing annual telecommunications spending over a two-year period by an annualized $2.5M. Established corporate policy for use of networks, phone systems, and Internet

Led a team of six specialists in software development, electronic design, and electronic records management in support of a DARPA funded effort led by prime contractor Martin Marietta to accelerate greatly the design and deployment of ASIC chips for DOD applications. Responsible for the schedule, budget, and technical plan for the implementation of an information management framework in support of a DARPA project to streamline ASIC development. Served as primary point of contact with other team members, product center staff, and with prime contractor

Led a team of 25 hardware, software, and networking engineers that supported Marshall Space Flight Center’s Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC) Shuttle and Payload operations. The team also designed next generation ground systems for use in support of the International Space Station. Responsible for design, procurement, installation, integration, and maintenance of data systems, networks, and systems software supporting NASA’s Huntsville Operations Support Center. Mr. Powers developed, tested, and supported the Huntsville Operations Support Center ground system software used during the on orbit checkout and initial operation of the Hubble Space Telescope. Led a small team that developed, tested, and supported software used to design train control logic circuitry for the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority (BART). Led a three-person effort to develop software to convert engineering databases into the schematics for San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit train control cabinets. Worked as part of a team that developed real time, non-stop software to automate the tracking and routing of trains for AMTRAK in the Northeast Corridor. He developed core technology for the project including the central data repository and the alarm management functions. Responsible for development of real-time train control software. Designed and implemented software that managed interprocess communications, error handling, and fault tolerance for the train control subsystem

Led a 2-person team that developed an interactive simulator for training firefighters. His responsibilities included software design and development, video production, customer interface, and marketing. The work was performed under contract to the National Fire Academy. Combined videodisk technology and PCs to create an interactive trainer for firefighters. Employed state of the art laser disk technology and Apple 2e computers
