About Steve Schenk

I began doing scientific research professionally while still in high school, and have worked a variety of jobs in science for over 30-years since. I left a doctoral program in biology back in 2001 with a M.S. degree to pursue a career in science education instead of research, and for the last 20-years, I've worked as a community college professor. At three different colleges, I have experience teaching a broad range of classes and have also worked extensively in K-12 outreach and other forms of informal education. In 2012 I was one of the finalists under consideration for the Reno-Gazette Journal TMCC Faculty Excellence in Teaching award at Truckee Meadows Community College. I have also completed the Florida Master Teacher Seminar (2015).Since 2020 I have been maintaining a YouTube Channel focused on biology education called Sci-5 Videos with Prof. S. I produce, animate, and edit all of the videos myself, with a focus on short and focused lessons (with instruction time under 5-minutes), colorful animation, and a self-depreciating sense of humor.I'm very interested in non-profit science education.
