In November of 2020, I joined Caledon Tubing (a division of Martinrea International) as a Maintenance Supervisor. This role affords me the opportunity to utilize my extensive expertise in maintenance management and reliability engineering when providing leadership and direction to Caledon’s maintenance department. By leveraging a hands-on leadership style, continuous improvement mindset, and a commitment to excellence, I ensure that safety and production objectives are met, and that quality and quantity standards are maintained.

After 8 years with GKN Sinter Metals, I received a promotion to Maintenance Lead, where I assumed the responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager and Supervisor. In this position, I direct daily operations and staff across a 25-person, 24/7, and 265K sq. ft. maintenance department that produces $72M in automotive transmission gears. In order to drive success in this role, I leverage my expertise to provide recommendations regarding machine repairs and engineered solutions that are essential to maintaining plant assets. I utilize 5S methodology to identify waste, increase asset performance, and maximize machine uptime. Notable accomplishments include: ➤ Being promoted to oversee maintenance management due to my broad expertise. In making this move, I assumed oversight of department operations, budget, and maintenance teams. ➤ Spearheading the development of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), which tracked 300+ assets and correlating preventative maintenance schedules. The associated data was further leveraged to increase monthly uptime with efficient scheduling and breakdown reductions. ➤ Reducing asset downtime caused by unscheduled breakdowns. Previously, unscheduled breakdowns ranked as the number two cause for asset downtime but improved to fifth ranking cause of downtime under my leadership. ➤ Generating $100K in energy rebate savings by managing energy saving initiatives with lighting and air compressor upgrade projects.

As the Maintenance Supervisor, I assumed my first leadership role where I owned scheduling and operations for all parts inventory and maintenance activities. With this progression in leadership, I directed a team of 25 reports comprised of electricians, millwrights, lube techs, cleaning staff, electrical engineers, and manufacturing engineers/robotics programmers with associated involvement in managing unionized labor matters. To streamline operations, I monitored team performance as it related to compliance, asset uptime, and labor/overtime costs. Highlights included: ➤ Serving as co-chair for the health and safety committee. ➤ Spearheading the implementation of a 5S system for the spare parts inventory, which resulted in increased equipment performance, more efficient repair schedules, and maximized part availabilities. ➤ Successfully hiring and training 7 new employees and delivering enterprise asset management (EAM) software and equipment training to all 25 maintenance department staff.➤ Improving data management and accountability by leading an effort to digitalize maintenance checklists using SharePoint.

My professional career with GKN Sinter Metals started with this position where I collaborated with the production scheduling team to coordinate plant preventative maintenance programs. I played a key role in determining the cost for repairs, parts, and equipment and performed maintenance across mechanical elements such as hydraulics, robotics, automation, and stamping presses. I also developed standardized operating procedures for various complex maintenance tasks that led to reduced errors and increased efficiency. Top contributions included: ➤ Increasing production efficiency by 25% with the design of an automated part feeder. The system fed parts into a stamping press (previously manually operated) and resulted in a 50% reduction in labor requirements. ➤ Maintaining 95% preventative maintenance completion throughout my tenure in this position.

In this role, I supervised a team of 3 amusement park mechanics and grounds crew. As the team lead, I was able to implement several process improvements including an efficient oil change system for the go-karts that resulted in a reduction of material waste and labor.

During my tenure as an apprentice, I was able to gain extensive hands-on experience with performing mechanical maintenance. I worked primarily on wire forming stamping presses where I identified and resolved mechanical issues with the hydraulics and pneumatics.
