Eagle Protect is a privately owned company established in 2006. Based in Christchurch, New Zealand and California, USA, we work internationally distributing single-use consumables to the food and medical sectors. These include latex and nitrile gloves, disposable non-woven clothing and PE protective wear.Our products not only provide protection to people in a range of different fields, particularly the food processing/preparation, medical, automotive, cleaning and beauty industries. But we also protect the reputation of our clients, by ensuring the products we sell are ethically sourced and carefully manufactured in factories we personally visit and inspect.Although our products provide necessary protection in this busy, dirty world, we do recognise that single use products have an impact on our environment. We continuously look for ways to reduce waste by changing the packing process, using new technologies and improving processes.I visit our suppliers every year to see how we can make positive changes. We regularly spend time with clients to help them maximize efficiencies and cut waste. In 2012, Eagle Protect became the first New Zealand B Corp and I am an active member of the B Corp community. The B Corp accreditation framework gave us the structure to build a company that was both profitable and sought to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible. We were successfully re-accredited in 2014, and in 2015 we became incorporated as a Benefit Corporation in the US based in South Lake Tahoe. Using business as a force for good is absolutely central to Eagle. We are keen to grow and improve our business, eager to find different ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. We wanted to build a business that was both profitable and did some good in the world. It took time to decide what ‘good’ looked like. The reality is, our products are necessary – people need the protection they offer when they are processing food, looking after patients, handling chemicals. But we also recognised the impact of this industry.Right from the start, we set out to source products manufactured in modern, safe and sanitary factories. And we challenged ourselves to constantly investigate ways to reduce, reuse, recycle. In 2012 our family took a road trip. For 8 months, we ran the business remotely whilst living in Europe, America and Canada. I visited ground-breaking companies like Methodhome and Zappos, met exciting new start-ups, and got to know a growing movement called B Corp. B Corps are companies accredited as meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The B Corp idea appealed because we could use the framework to prove our intentions and progress in doing business for good. And with re-accreditation every 2 years, we could continuously engage in improving our business and reducing the impact of our work.At the end of 2012, Eagle Consumables became the first New Zealand-based B Corp. We’ve been successfully re-accredited in 2014, and in 2015 we made a further commitment to using business as a force for good when we became incorporated as a Benefit Corporation in the US. As all this was happening, Eagle grew to be a leading company in the consumer disposables market in New Zealand. Our intention to use business for good has enabled the creation of a highly profitable company with top quality proven products.
