Producer / Musician
CurrentIn June of 2017, I took on a challenge to produce a music project with an old friend, Paris composer and pianist, Tim Root. Together, we assembled a team of world-class musicians, each known world-wide for their mastery and unique voice on their instrument(s). We came together to learn, rehearse, arrange and record six intense, poly-rhythmic, poly-tonal compositions that Tim had just completed. Ten of us worked for a week in October of 2017, rehearsing for four days, then recording for three days the six track that are now being mastered for release in Spring of 2018. We recorded at the historic Bear Creek studio in Woodinville,. and we've launched a PledgeMusic campaign to finance completion and release.

C3 was a long-term collaboration between Seattle musicians Steve Ball and Paul O’Rear. C3 was an evolution of the Steve Ball Roadshow, a guitar-based ensemble that performed in and around the Seattle area from 1997 - 2010. Before settling in Seattle, Steve Ball was a long time member of the League of Crafty Guitarists, founder of the Seattle Guitar Circle, and core member of international guitar ensembles Los Gauchos Alemanes and Electric Gauchos. C3 music is characterized by odd, intricate and interlocking guitar parts complemented with stacked vocal harmonies. C3 performances featured a constantly morphing line-up of world-class guest musicians who collaborate to present improvised songscapes and multi-layered story-songs. Arrangements, tempos, keys, and harmonies unfold dynamically and musically in the moment, and no song or show is ever performed exactly the same way twice. C3 performed woven arrangements of both new and familiar songs by Steve Ball, the group as well as carefully chosen covers by Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Jane Siberry, Kate Bush, the Roches, Talking Heads, Yes, Genesis, and Todd Rundgren. C3 2013 live collaborators: Ivan Lee, Jaxie Binder, Stephen Thompson, Nathan Grigg, Igor Abuldaze. C3 2013 studio contributors also include Ivan Lee, Davide Rossi (Coldplay!) and Christian Heilman. In 2103, Steve Ball produced and released an interactive C3 iPad app called "Motion Study" available now in the Apple Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/c3-motion-study/id647160365?mt=8 Twelve C3 songs are transformed into a moving, multi-layered musical mash-up, a playfully pliable puzzle. Motion Study is visual and visceral way to experience the motion & emotion in this evocative music.* * *
