Building Systems & Refrigeration Technician

Responsible for campus-wide building systems maintenance, repair/upgrades, project management, and commissioning on a UBC building portfolio comprising over 400 buildings. Working under the Building Operations group, took a holistic view of campus-wide building systems incorporating best practices in sustainability and systems optimization, becoming a recognized talent in problem-solving.Responsibilities: - Synthesized complex data to correctly diagnose and repair mechanical systems in a variety of specialist areas. Equipment included chillers, geothermal, heat pumps, air conditioning, environmental chambers and hydronic heating systems.- Using interpersonal and management skills, worked with all divisions to support the transition of new buildings from subcontractors to part of UBC’s asset portfolio.- Through an understanding of the overall mechanical systems and project management, worked with controls and BMS to effectively verify and optimize building automations controls, seasonal strategies, PID loops and program codes. - Shop Steward for IUOE Local 882. Developed a deep understanding of union activities, grievance processes and conflict resolution.
