Establish and oversee an animal care department for the new Aquarium at the Boardwalk attraction opened in November 2020. Pre-opening construction: Create aquarium collection plan for 400,000 gallon saltwater facility. Oversee buildout and commissioning of offsite quarantine facility and coordinate responsible sourcing and acquisition of several thousand fish and invertebrates. Hire, onboard, and train animal care staff to maintain quarantine systems and animal care areas. Design exhibit theming for animal habitats and oversee both in-house and contractor delivered habitat construction. Lead commissioning of exhibits and stocking of main aquarium as construction completed. Navigate supply chain and other logistical challenges as project took place during Covid-19 pandemic.Post-opening operation: Oversee and train aquarium staff on freshly established animal care and facility requirements. Hire and onboard new staff as department grew to completion. Supervise LSS team to operate and adjust novel LSS systems, achieving peak exhibit water quality and clarity. Lead seasonal exhibit refreshes in years 2 and 3. Department consisting of 19 direct reports responsible for all aspects of animal care, including collection planning, animal wellbeing, acquisitions, animal health and quarantine, scuba dive program, life support systems, water quality, inventory management and budgeting, and staff health and safety.

Oversee curatorial development of new aquarium projects around the world. Lead a team responsible for overseeing design and implementation of critical life support systems, husbandry facilities, and key exhibit aspects as well as responsible animal collection planning, sustainable sourcing, and initial acquisitions. Deploy to sites to lead local teams in setting up routines and animal care practices. Interface with creative, project management, and operational teams, as well as numerous contractors and other stakeholders. Oversaw all facets of animal husbandry department for a 200,000 gallon public aquarium, managing a team of six direct reports. Responsible for animal health, exhibit and collection management, scheduling, payroll, performance management, animal health, departmental budget, inventory, vendors and contractors, aquatic life support systems, dive program, annual reporting, animal collection planning, animal transport, quarantine, federal and state wildlife permitting and compliance, AZA compliance, facilities maintenance, and safety training.

Temporary assignment to help open a new SEA LIFE aquarium site in China after some rapid staffing changes left the site short. Worked with a global team across four continents to coordinate staff training, major life support work, exhibit modifications, animal acquisitions, marketing and PR support, and water analysis. Some of the most challenging and taxing work I've ever done, but easily some of the most rewarding.

Cared for diverse aquarium exhibits, including Caribbean coral collection. Trained and lead team of aquarists, interns, and volunteers. Carried out fieldwork including coral spawning research, coral restoration, sustainable animal collecting, and underwater archaeology.
