Steve Bowden is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and educator who explores the intersection of old and new technologies through thoughtfully designed objects and experiences. After graduating from Maine College of Art & Design in 1997, he embarked on a residency at Fabrica in Italy, co-founding the New Media Department and launching COLORS Magazine online. In NYC, he worked, taught, and collaborated with The Chopping Block on projects featured in the 2003 National Design Triennial. Steve later earned an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, winning the Daimler Chrysler Emerging Artists Award in 2005, and collaborated with Cranbrook alumni to create identity, packaging, and textiles for BUILT's innovative product line.As his family grew, Steve moved back to New England, becoming Design Manager of Global Interactive at Timberland before transitioning to teaching as an adjunct professor in 2011. In 2021, he became Director of Marketing and Communications & Brand Manager at Maine College of Art & Design, leading a transformative rebranding that substantially increased applications and digital reach over three years. Steve is currently working via his studio, 8.5x11, serving as the President of DesignInquiry.
