I specialise in oil paintings, primarily on wood, and use a number of techniques to create a nostalgic feel to my work, whether that’s with brushes, palette knives, rags or rubber blocks, using my own medium to mix with the oils that provide different textures for each layer. This helps to create a painting that is a moment in time; the haziness allowing the viewer to fill in the gaps with their own stories or emotions.I am a self-taught artist, learning from experience (and lots of mistakes), but also whilst working alongside other artists in group practices and workshops. I am always trying to improve my practice and learn new techniques and you’ll be able to see the development of my artwork throughout the years with my print collection.Although I have loved to draw and paint since I was a child growing up in Devon in the ‘70s and ‘80s, this is not where my career started. I studied Aeromechanical Systems Engineering at Cranfield University and began my career as an Engineering Officer, travelling the world and getting to understand different cultures and ways of life. I became a Chartered Engineer, graduated with a Masters in Business Administration, qualified as a mountain expedition leader and gained my private pilot’s licence. I also spent time with the United Nations in Sierra Leone, where I met my wife.My second career took me into management consultancy, contracting in a diverse set of organisations such as the National Health Service, UK Government, a number of private aviation businesses and Twycross Zoo, working from locations in Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol, Leeds, London and Dublin. I moved to Dublin permanently in April 2015 and took on a General Management Role in Blackrock Clinic. In 2017, I gave up my career in corporate management and restructuring to become a full-time artist.I have over 120 paintings in private collections across Ireland, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Europe. I have exhibited in the RDS Dublin at Art Source, the National Maritime Museum of Ireland, the Royal St George Yacht Club, Delgany Golf Club, several installations at Willow Park School, held over 20 solo exhibitions, and represented in the Irish Design Gallery, Dún Laoghaire. I opened my own gallery in Dún Laoghaire in December 2023.In my spare time I enjoy renovating old houses, coaching girls and boys football and I sit on the Board of the Global Angels Foundation, an international charity. I’d love to get back into skiing and scuba diving, but that’s down to you buying my art!
