I'm currently an Engineering Manager at Tribal Group who works on the SITS:Vision product. Leadership, stakeholder management, budgets and strategy are now my bag.I've been working at Tribal since January 2013, first as a Developer and until very recently as a Delivery Lead - providing my team not only motivation, but guidance when needed and also a positive environment where my team members and colleagues can thrive. As of February 2024 I’ve stepped up to the role of Engineering Manager to support the whole development team - and what a great team they are.Anyone who knows me always notices I'm rarely unhappy. I'm an experienced developer, primarily using Uniface, SQL (both ORA/MSS), but also dabbling in other languages/IDEs over the years. I've primarily worked in agile scrum teams, and have seen the benefits it can bring. My proudest development achievement was the design of a new approach to the area of SITS I work in which blended both the old tried and true approach to Statutory Reporting with a newer and more efficient near real-time mechanism, which I co-ordinated and developed with my team and now underpins multiple SITS solutions taking advantage of a more service oriented architecture led approach.I am a proud alumni of Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds Beckett) who studied Games Design.Made a mobile game called BarrelBusters which to this day I'm still proud of.I've also dabbled in project management, my notable achievements being co-ordinating the development of 3 data transformation programmes, for Australia, the UK and New Zealand respectively. This involves not just solution design, but also ensuring aspects of the project beyond the development are anticipated by the business.Outside of my work, I enjoy playing badminton, as well as live music. Recently I’ve built a habit of plonking myself in a new country for the solo travel itch. But most of all I enjoy seeing my friends no matter where they are.The more varied my working day can get the better really, always up for a new challenge and would always prefer to innovate rather be complacent. A week where I can predict every twist and turn isn't for me - probably why I love software development so much.
