Steve is the Director of the Small Business Development Center at COCC. In his role as director, he oversees the local business advisors and educational programs in addition to working closely with business support organizations to assess the needs of the business community. Steve works closely with businesses to help promote economic development in the community through the tools of the SBDC.The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at COCC provides advising, training, online courses and resources for businesses in Central Oregon. These resources include access to capital, market research and global trade. As the lead advisor for the Grow Oregon program at the Central Oregon SBDC, Steve worked with traded sector companies to achieve the goals of the program. The goals of the program are to generate jobs and increased revenues for the participating businesses. As the lead advisor, he recruited companies to participate in the program and performed the following duties:• Engages traded-sector Oregon companies with 10-99 employees, $1M - $50M in sales revenue, and demonstrated growth in net sales, net profit, or number of employees in 3 out of the last 5 yrs.• Conducts new client initial assessment• Perform strategic needs assessment• Provides strategic business advising • Engages resource partners to provide clients access to market research and digital media strategies• Opens access to CEO networking and mentoring

Steve was the lead advisor for the Central Oregon SBDC Economic Gardening Program and provided strategic market research and tactical planning with actionable steps to qualified businesses as well as referrals to other professional service providers when needed. Steve also did all recruiting for the program through business development using his extensive network in the Central Oregon region.The traded-sector program focused on entrepreneurs with ventures that are typically between 1 and 5 years old with a focus to grow the business. The companies have developed some type of innovation in their product, process or delivery method. They also have an actual or potential market outside the Central Oregon region and the ability to create quality, living-wage jobs.
