Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) works on behalf of the 85 million Americans who are impacted by food intolerances and allergies, of which, 32 million Americans live with potential life-threatening food allergies. FARE’s mission is to improve the quality of life and the health of individuals with food allergies, and to provide them hope through the promise of new treatments.Steve led FARE’s public affairs and communications which consists of digital, social, traditional communications, outreach to the House of Representatives, the United States Senate, White House, Administration, state and local advocacy, grassroots, public policy initiatives, in-person and virtual event management, strategic alliances and FARE’s marketing efforts throughout their enterprise. Within two years, FARE increased its grassroots from 17k to more than 45k food allergy champions, hosted two highly successful “Fly-In’s” in 2020/21, to share their voice and advocate for the FASTER Act and the Congressional Food Allergy Research Caucus. Due to Steve’s and his teams’ efforts and FARE’s congressional champions, the FASTER Act was introduced, and passed in the United States Senate, House of Representatives, and signed by President Biden becoming Public Law 117-11, within the first 100 days of a Biden-Harris administration. Steve was fortunate to be named to The Hill’s Top Lobbyist and FARE received its first Campaigns & Elections Reed Award–Non-Profit Grassroots Organization of the Year. Along the way, FARE earned 4,764 media hits (who’s counting) including the NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, The New York Times, Washington Post and many more. Steve secured Dr. Tony Fauci, during the pandemic, and having him participate in FARE’s virtual Research Retreat to discuss food allergies was a highlight as well. Dr. Fauci’s segment alone received more than 29k views from a global audience. Steve’s greatest accomplishment was building a phenomenal team that worked well together.
